Eight matches over three days. Good times, good times.
Switzerland vs Poland. Switzerland looked good but not great in its red kits with white accents. Poland looked good but not great in its white kits with red accents. Or was it Switzerland in white with red and Poland in red with white? Either way, a good but not great looking matchup. Grade: B.
Wales vs Northern Ireland. Wales looked good again in its red jerseys with white accents, white shorts with red accents, and red socks with white accents. Northern Ireland looked good again in its white jerseys with green accents, green shorts with white accents, and white socks with green accents. I felt like I had seen a variation of this, and I was right – Northern Ireland and Poland pulled off this look with the colors flipped during group play. It’s a balanced look with contrast but not clash. Grade: A.
Croatia vs Portugal. Wow. Just wow. This looks like an ugly Christmas sweater, and I mean that in the best way possible. Two very bold looks, one of them very busy (Croatia’s) and one of them very calm (Portugal’s). Sometimes a clash of styles is good. This is one of those times. Grade: A.
France vs Ireland. I’m still on the fence about France’s kits – I still don’t love them and I still don’t hate them. Ireland looks fantastic in white jerseys, green shorts, and white socks, all trimmed in orange. Grade: A.
Germany vs Slovakia. Germany looked just as good as before in its white jerseys, black shorts, and black socks. Slovakia looked just as good as before in its blue kits with light blue trim. Grade: A.
Hungary vs Belgium. I like how Hungary’s kit mimics the colors of its flag with its red jerseys, white shorts, and green socks. I like the use of Belgium’s flag color stripes even though the sky blue base is not my favorite. Grade: A.
Italy vs Spain. I’m sorry, but I can’t look at Spain’s jerseys without thinking they look like their players threw up on them. Italy breaks out its blue shorts with blue jerseys and blue socks. Nothing can save this one for me. Grade: C+.
England vs Iceland. I asked coworkers if this match was part of Brexit. Good riddance to England’s kits. Iceland looks great in blue with white and red accents. Grade: C (F for England, A for Iceland).
